Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Eighty-Seven: Piotyr's Quest

In Which Our Hero gets a new quest and is entertained by the locals.

Walking north, Marcus encounters a different kind of ghost. This is the kind that shoots ghostly fireballs and causes damage. It's also the kind that falls down after Marcus beats on it for a while and has a big pile of stones full of ghostly treasure!

It's time to go back to town, and Marcus takes a little bit of time to practice climbing over the gates (in fact, he grinds this out in a very subtly deleted scene) and makes it over no problem. Inside, Piotyr's ghost gives him his first official quest: free the Rusalka. OK, no problem.

Then it's back to the inn for some dinner and amusing conversation with the locals. It's more of the same banter we've come to love, with a few clues about the Chernovy cult, so enjoy!

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Eighty-Six: Mordavian Nights

In Which Our Hero puts down roots and meets a ghost.

Back in Erana's Garden it's a quick run up to the Leshy to tell him about rescuing the Bush, at which point he tells us to go plant it. There's really only one logical place to do this: the big purpose-built hole in Erana's Garden, which we just came from. Lucky us eh?

It's back to the Garden where we plant the Bush, and back to the Leshy who plays another stupid game with us before giving up the next clue after we get his Rusalka question correct: part of a rhyme that will open up an area behind 'trick sticks.' Wonder where that is?

Night's about to fall and Marcus takes five before walking to the west and meeting a very spooky looking ghost. She seems to be lost. And she doesn't seem to realize she's dead. Like in that movie about ghosts where the kid saw dead people that didn't know they were dead. You know, Ghostbusters.

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Seventy-Three: Mordavia Town

In Which Our Hero finds the town of Mordavia and meets the friendly locals.

We pick up in the swamp and make a run through the nighttime Mordavian forest to the town of Mordavia itself. Marcus has a quick poke around the outside and then walks in, much to the surprise of Dmitri, the Burgomeister.

Most of the rest of the video is Marcus' conversation with Dmitri, which is a bit lengthy but sets up part of the story for this game. Listening to the dialogue does make the game more interesting (and the subtitles slightly less distracting) but takes a little longer - so I anticipate there will be more updates for Shadows of Darkness than the other games.

At any rate, enjoy!

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Fifty-Three: A Thousand Splendid Crocs

In Which Our Hero settles into life in East Fricana.

Video With Subtitles

I have to admit, this video isn't all that exiting; at this point in the game, Marcus is supposed to be fighting, practicing the various Simbani challenges and exploring around. Which we do a bit of.

We start right where we left off - over the corpse of a dead ant. It's back to the village for a little practice on the bridge, which Uhura handily wins because we forgot to restore our stamina. Oops.

Back to the Pool of Peace, where you - take note - have to fill your waterskins one at a time. Inconvenient, but them's the shakes I guess. Then it's exploring around, killing monsters and raising stats until nightfall, where I bumble a bit trying to remember how to light a damn campfire. Sheesh.

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Forty-Eight: Savanna Stories

In Which Our Hero journeys out into East Fricana for the first time.

Video With Subtitles

We head out of the Inn to get a look at Tarna at night, which seems to be a very dull and deserted place. After sleeping in a hole in the wall (literally), we're up and we go to ask the amulet seller about rumors. Then it's out of Tarna!

But first we have a lively conversation with the gate guards about the current political situation in Tarna. It appears there are two factions: one that thinks Rajah is right and should go to war, and another that thinks Rakeesh is right and a peaceful solution should be explored. Not unsurprisingly, the peace side is the older, wiser side.

The savanna is, well, big. It's a giant open grassland with some trees. And some meerbats, which we meet for the first time, before our alarm clock goes off and we have to go back to the city so we're well rested for our trip with Rakeesh tomorrow.

Until then...

Quest for Glory Epic Let's Play Part Twenty-Five: Shapeir Nightlife and Nightunlife

Video With Subtitles

It's off to the nighttime desert to look for some fights, and boy howdy do we find them! I realize this is largely a 'random encounter' video and I apologize, so I tried to throw as much research/fun facting in there as I could for the bits where he's just wandering through the desert. The monsters in Shapeir are pretty awesome though, and we beat up, in no particular order:

Scorpions. The giant variety, not the German hair band variety.
Ghouls.
Jackalmen
More Ghouls.
More Scorpions.

That actually takes care of our creature allotment for this game save two: the Terrorsaurus (!) and the desert brigand, who we will no doubt see a bit more of after we buff up a tad and get some experience.

Oh yeah, and the other one-off fights... but we'll get to those momentarily.

Now: there's still a couple of days before the next major 'event' so the next video will have some grinding gaps in it, but I'll let you know when and where they happen and the results of me fighting Uhura repeatedly.

Quest for Glory Epic Let's Play Part Twenty-Four: Wrasslin' and Dancin'

Video With Subtitles

We pick up exactly where we left off, in the relaxing and liquid sounds of Aziza's house where she explains just what the hell a Fire Elemental is, what it can do and how we can stop it. There's really no purpose into having Aziza give us those little demonstrations, but they are pretty cool.

Then it's off to Keapon's place where we sell our whirl, across the plaza to pick up some more Vigor pills, and then to Issur's place. That's right you big bald gay stereotype - it's rematch time.

Piece of cake to beat him when our stamina isn't in the single digits. Then we go a few rounds with Uhura before going to the pad for one of the true delights of this game: Shema's dance. Looking back on it, it's actually really sophisticated for 1991 and the art style especially is a harbinger of some of the good things to come from Sierra - note the use of perspective and multiple simultaneously animated elements. This isn't King's Quest 4.

Then it's down for a quick nap before we mount our noble steed and head into the desert at night.
