In Which Our Hero discusses Truth with Rakeesh and plants with some hippies.
Ah Silmaria. A lovely city populated mostly by characters from other Quest for Glory games. This update, we'll spend a lot of time with three such characters.
Marcus starts this movie in the Apothecary with Salim and Julanar. Salim is very, ahem, laid back, but Julanar.. she needs a new scriptwriter. The actress does the best she can but the original material isn't all that great to begin with. Kind of sad.
They talk about how Salim went to Shapeir and met Julanar by camping out in the desert and giving her 'hugs.' Marcus smiles and nods politely, buys some pills and then heads off to Nob Hill to meet Rakeesh.
Rakeesh wants to give Marcus Soulforge, but Marcus has Piotyr's sword so there's no need. Rakeesh also gives Marcus the Katta's pin back, which is pretty cool even if it doesn't really serve a purpose in this game. He then explains to Marcus a little more about the situation in Silmaria and about something called the Ring of Truth, a glorified lie detector that will help Marcus and Rakeesh figure out what the hell is going on here. Lucky us!

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Parts 116 and 117: A Fine Morning and Hit Me Baba One More Time
In Which Our Hero enjoys the last normal morning in Mordavia and runs into Baba Yaga one last time.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is it: the beginning of the Quest for Glory IV endgame. The first video is really quite normal: it's the last real normal morning Marcus will have in Mordavia. He starts off with brekkie, talks to Bella and Yuri for a bit, then heads out to chat with Dmitri about Piotyr and being a Paladin. Igor has a few graveyard humor jokes too. It's on to the guild for a workout, on to Dr. Cranium's for some pills, and back to Dmitri to tell him about Nikolai. That's it.
There are a couple of loose ends to start wrapping up, the first being the final ritual we need to collect. The one hidden in the Hangman's Tree. Guess who's hanging on to it. Yup. So we get to visit our onetime foe one last time. She's far more cordial this time (probably because she isn't dead-set on having Marcus with a side of cordial), even taking the time to explain the Dark One situation in plain English. Or common, whatever it is.
That's where we leave off. Next time, we've got a fortune, then we're sneaking into Castle Borgov to start the final pieces of the game.
Until then...

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Parts Ninety-Eight and Ninety-Nine: Marcus' Pledge and Redeeming Piotyr
In Which Our Hero pledges to help save an innocent man and teaches the Burgomeister what it means to be a Hero.

Picking up where we left off, we walk into the Burgomeister's office and pump him for information about this gypsy business. It seems that the gypsy was just wandering outside of town and happened to be there when people were looking for Igor. So naturally, they brought him in, locked him up and want to burn him. Reason is lost on the mob so unless someone can prove the gypsy's innocence - figure out what happened to Igor - this guy's going to burn for just being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The second video covers Marcus telling the Burgomeister about finding Piotyr's sword, the battle with the wraith and the ghost in the town square. It turns out that Piotyr was suspected of abandoning Dmitri's grandmother and this sword proves he didn't, that he was killed in battle instead. Dmitri is impressed, so much so that he gives Marcus Piotyr's Paladin shield as well (woohoo!) and tells Marcus that his faith in Heroes and Paladins is restored.
All in a day's work!
The rest of the video is Marcus' morning routine, talking to Olga, looking for Igor, and finally going to Nikolai and telling him about the ghost we saw in the forest. Before we can stop him, he runs off to find her.
Oops.

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Parts Ninety-Four and Ninety-Five: Waiting for Baba and A Paladin's Sword
In Which Our Hero kills a little time (necessarily) and gets a new sword, and another quest to complete his other quest. Sigh.

We've got two videos today to help speed things along. The first one is Marcus' morning routine: getting some potions from Dr. Cranium, including the Rehydration Solution, and going to see Boris. Then it's off to Baba Yaga, but we meet the Leshy first who asks us another riddle but chides us for not having visited Baba yet.
We're about to fix that, oh yes. The second video picks up right outside Baba's hideout, where we meet Bonehead again. He'll let us in as long as we get him something to 'improve his looks.' Damn, another quest. At least this one won't be too hard to complete.
Once we're done with Bonehead (and he does give us some good exposition about Baba's background) we kill a little time until nightfall and then face another wraith to take its plunder - a big old shiny pile of plunder, which includes a Paladin Sword. Our inventory says is belonged to Piotyr. Well well.
Watch out world: Marcus is back.

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Eighty-Three: Back to Town
In Which Our Hero listens to the locals and meets a ghost.

Continuing at our somewhat glacial pace, we head back to the Inn and wrap up Marcus' first day in Mordavia with another enlightening (and hilarious) conversation with the locals. This is one of the better ones with the three farmers, so it's actually worth listening to the whole thing.
After chatting with our new friends (ha) we head back outside where night has officially fallen. Back by Erana's Staff, we meet the shade of the Paladin Piotyr who tells us that he cannot rest until the sorrows of his land are fixed, and that we as a fellow Paladin must share his fate. Well, shit. No one ever said this Paladin gig would be easy.

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Seventy-Six: Some Backstory
In Which Our Hero learns of the Paladin Piotyr and the battle against the Chernovy Cult.

The last couple of updates have danced around the backstory a bit. This one has it in spades.
Marcus is still in the Guild, where he takes a gander at the logbook. The recent entries talk about the Paladin Piotyr and his struggles against the Dark One or Chernovy cult. The cult has been operating out of a cave, which he and Erana lead an army to attack. The cultists turned into horrible monsters and Erana seems to have died in the cave while trying to banish - something - to - somewhere. Piotyr seems to have made it back to Mordavia to tell the story, and mentions that he is going to go in search of various Dark One rituals and destroy them. That's the last entry.
It seems that perhaps we have a Quest.
We do a little light reading, learning the Climb skill among other things and then buff up on the stairstepper. There's still more of the town to explore, so we're off and find an old man called Nikolai wandering around, looking for someone named 'Anna.' He's in front of a building that belongs to one Dr. Cranium, where we solve (after a little difficulty) a very simple puzzle and gain entry. The inside looks like a wonderous place full of cunning marvels - which we will explore in further detail in the next update.

Quest For Glory Epic Let's Play Part Forty-Nine: Journey to the Simbani Village
In Which Our Hero takes a long trip across East Fricana.Video With Subtitles
Before heading out into the wild, we appear before the Council of Judgement with Rakeesh to swear an oath to stop this war, or our honor will be forfeit and we face expulsion from Tarna. Not a big deal for us since we just got here, but that's a pretty big deal for our furry pal so I guess we should help him out.
We then set off across the savanna and Rakeesh instructs us in the ways of the Paladin, most of which we already know because we're been doing it since the start of last game. He fills us in our growing abilities and what to expect from the Simbani.
When we arrive at the Simbani village we're introduced to their leader, the Laibon, who fills us in on his side of this whole war thing. He tells us that the Leopardmen stole the Spear of Death, and it must have been the Leopardmen because it happened at night and Leopardmen travel at night. There are lots of other things that travel by night, but never mind that - definitely the Leopardmen. Also, Leopardmen use magic which we all know is tantamount to signing a written confession of stealing the Spear of Death.
Anyhoo, it looks like we've got our work cut out for us. At least we're not preventing a war over taxation of the Naboo system.

Quest for Glory Epic Let's Play Parts Forty, Forty-One and Forty-Two: The End, Hero of Two Lands! and Quest for Glory II End Credits
First Video With Subtitles
The Hero Ceremony
Quest for Glory II End Credits
Back in Raseir we mount a surprise attack on the palace Groo-style: by walking up to the gate and yelling 'SURPRISE!' as we attack. We make short work of the guards, then race through the palace to find Khaveen guarding a ritual chamber. Well it's time for the final boss fight.
Khaveen is one tough motherfucker, but we get a chance to show that we're better than he is - apart from the fact that he ends the fight in a bloody heap on the floor of course. Then we SURPRISE ATTACK the door to the ritual chamber and find Ad Avis inside doing something he shouldn't.
So we run, and we push, and we knock him over the parapet, and that Ladies and Gentlemen is the end of Quest for Glory II!
Almost.
The Sultan - who has been watching us the whole rhyme, err, time, makes us Hero of Shapeir and adopts us as his son. And Rakeesh tells us we've acted with honor and offers us Soulforge, his flaming Paladin sword.
Hells yeah!
We ended the game with 550/500 points and saved Marcus for his trip to Tarna in Quest for Glory III. If you're interested, here's a screenshot for Shadows of Darkness to add to your 'incorrect Quest for Glory end cinematics' screenshots, as SOD wasn't until Quest for Glory IV.
